The 34th ACM Symposium on Applied Computing
Track on Communication, Computing, and Networking in Internet of Vehicles (CCNIV)
Track on Communication, Computing, and Networking in Internet of Vehicles (CCNIV)
For the last thirty three years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC) has been a primary and international forum for applied computer scientists, computer engineers, software engineers and other computer related professionals from around the world to gather, interact, present, and disseminate their research and development work. SAC 2019 is sponsored by the Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP), and SIGAPP’s mission is to further the interests of the computing professionals engaged in the development of new computing techniques and applications areas and the transfer of computing technology to new problem domains. SAC 2019 will be held on April 8-12, 2019 in Limassol, Cyprus.
With continuously increasing urban population and rapidly expanding cities, traffic congestion, road accidents and environmental pollution, deeply affecting the everyday life and move of people, have become urgent problems to be solved. The conventional Vehicle Ad-hoc Networks, with no concrete implementation, allow vehicles to communicate with each other in order to enable new services, such as traffic management, accident avoidance and resource sharing. However, the recent advances in communications, controls and embedded systems, brought by the Internet of Things era, propel the evolution towards the Internet of Vehicles, a more general concept gaining more interest from both academia and automotive industry during the past few years.
In the IoV paradigm, each vehicle is viewed as a smart object, endowed with intelligence and new level of automation, able to interact with its surrounding environment and to take decisions or to be monitored in critical situations to reinforce the road safety and efficiency. Being equipped with a wide variety of sensors, the interactions between vehicles and the physical world allow new levels of communications, such as Vehicle-to-Pedestrian or Vehicle-to-Device, and achieve a large network of people-vehicle-road that provides services for large smart cities, ranging from safety applications, traffic monitoring to data gathering. Besides, the connection to the Internet offers tremendous opportunity and gives rise of new services and applications to assure a safer and more pleasant trip by providing access to the Internet and other infotainment applications.
Notwithstanding, the IoV is considered as an important symbol of the Smart City concept and it has a wide application prospect in building future Intelligent Transportation System, numerous challenges still need to be tackled to allow a better exploitation of the Internet of Vehicles potential. The CCNIV track aims to offer a space for researchers/academics to discuss major research issues, to share new findings and to exchange ideas covering a variety of topics associated to Internet of Vehicles and Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished contributions for this track. Submissions must not be currently under consideration somewhere else. The author(s) name(s) and address(es) must not appear in the body of the paper, and self-reference should be in the third person. This is to facilitate double-blind review. Only the title should be shown at the first page without the author's information. Papers must be formatted according to the ACM SAC template and should be submitted in the PDF format. Full papers are limited to 8 pages with the option for up to 2 additional pages.
Papers that received high reviews but were not accepted due to space limitations can be invited for the poster session. Posters are limited to 3 pages with the option for up to only additional page. For full submission guidelines, please follow the instructions on the ACM SAC 2019 website. Please submit your contribution via SAC 2019 Web page.
Graduate students are invited to submit research abstracts (maximum of 4 pages in ACM camera-ready format) following the instructions published at SAC 2019 website. Submission of the same abstract to multiple tracks is not allowed. All research abstract submissions will be reviewed by expert reviewers and practitioners. Authors of selected abstracts will have the opportunity to give poster presentations of their work and compete for three top-winning places. The SRC committee will evaluate and select the first-, second-, and third-place winners. The winners will receive medals and cash awards. Winners will be announced during the conference banquet. Authors of selected abstracts are eligible to apply to the SIGAPP Student Travel Award program for financial support. Please submit your contribution via SAC 2019 Web page.
The conference proceedings will be published by ACM and will be also available online through ACM's Digital Library. Paper registration is required,. allowing the inclusion of the paper/poster in the conference proceedings. An author or a proxy attending SAC MUST present the paper. This is a requirement for the paper/poster to be included in the ACM/IEEE digital library. No-show of scheduled papers and posters will result in excluding them from the ACM/IEEE digital library.
Full papers are limited to 8 pages, in camera-ready format, included in the registration fee. Authors have the option to include up to two (2) extra pages at additional fee of US$80 per page. Posters are limited to 3 pages, in camera-ready format, included in the registration fee. Authors have the option to include only one (1) extra page at additional fee of US$80. SRC Abstracts are limited to 4 pages, in camera-ready format, included in the registration fee. No extra pages allowed.
